Alpha Talks Are Here at St. Paul's

Our first series of Alpha Talks is off to a fantastic start. Our team would like to thank all of those who invited family members and friends to participate, all those who have supported us in prayer or with monetary donations, and everyone who has offered to help with set-up, clean
-up and cooking. It's not too late to be involved! If you are able to help on Wednesday evenings between the hours of 5:30 and 8:30PM or if you would like to help prepare food,
please contact Mark Habershaw at 871-1559. Thank you!

The following prayer was written by Deacon Paul and has been prayed daily by the Alpha Team members since June. Perhaps you would like to make it part of your daily prayers, too!

Heavenly Father,
we are about to embark on the Alpha Program
in which we will reach out to those
who are struggling with their faith.
We know that many obstacles will be
placed in our way, but we must follow
the words of your Son, Jesus, who told us
to go out and preach to all nations
as well as going after the lost sheep.
And so we ask you to watch over our pastor,
Father Young, and the team who will run this program.
We ask you to send your Holy Spirit on those we invite
to participate, to open their hearts, their minds and souls
to accept our invitation and to be moved to draw closer
to you through this program. We ask all of this in
your Son’s name, Our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

As you probably know by now, our parish will be hosting Alpha Talks on Wednesday evenings over the next several weeks. This is an exciting time as we look forward to welcoming our guests, getting to know them and learning and growing with them in the ways of faith. It will be amazing to see how the Holy Spirit will be working in people’s lives. If you have not invited anyone yet, there is still time! Encourage someone you know to join us this Wednesday at 6:15PM in St. Paul School. If you have any questions please contact Julie Bradley at 941-5576 or faithform@saintpaulcranston.org

"Since running the Alpha program in my parish I have seen lukewarm Catholics come alive, nonbelievers come to Christ, and committed Christians becoming more committed and being formed as leaders. I consider Alpha not to be just another program that can be put on by a church, but as the program at the heart of renewal in the local church. The fruit has convinced me that this course has been blessed by God." - Father James Mallon, Pastor of St. Benedict Parish in Halifax, NS, Canada

The Alpha Talks will begin at St. Paul's in a few short weeks. It's time to invite friends, neighbors, family members and coworkers to come and see what it's all about. There is NO long-term commitment - just come for a free meal, a short talk and a friendly discussion in a small group setting on Wednesday, October 14th at 6:15PM. If they like it, they can come back the following week - it's that simple. Please stop by the table in the vestibule or the easel near the side door this weekend to pick up invitations that you can give out this week. Alpha team members will also be available to answer your questions.

St. Paul's Supports Alpha

Thanks to all of the parishioners who have helped to plan, organize and prepare for our Alpha program. It is an exciting and wonderful experience to be praying, working and laughing together. This is truly a fun bunch! We would love to welcome anyone who would like to join the team, which consists of three mini-teams:

*The Prayer Team is led by Deacon Paul. If you would like to join the Alpha Prayer Team please contact him at 461-5734 or pshea@saintpaulcranston.org to find out how you can participate. Prayer Team members are encouraged to come out and pray for Alpha during the Wednesday evening sessions, but if you're not available on Wednesdays Deacon Paul can give you some other ideas of how to support Alpha in prayer at a time that is better for you.

*The Task Force is led by Mark Habershaw. On Wednesdays between 5:30-6:00PM his team will set up the cafeteria, be ready to welcome our guests, serve the meal at 6:30, and clean up at 7:00. Anyone who can come out once or twice on a Wednesday to help will be welcomed. Or, if you like to cook, perhaps you could provide food once or twice during the Alpha series. A meal planning meeting will take place on Monday, October 5th to decide what will be served for dinner each week. Please contact Mark at 871-1559 or mhabs34@gmail.com for the time and location of the meeting, or to help with any of the Task Force duties.

*The Small Group Discussion Team is led by Julie Bradley. The small group discussion is where guests are encouraged to share their thoughts and feelings regarding the topic of the evening. Small group hosts and helpers are trained to facilitate discussion, but do not teach, correct, judge or reject anyone's comments. The small group is a safe, caring and welcoming place where everyone is encouraged to share openly and honestly. Anyone who would like to join the Alpha Team as a small group host or helper on Wednesday evenings, please contact Julie at 941-5576 or by e mail at faithform@saintpaulcranston.org.
