In a recent Pastor’s Corner, Fr. Young described an experience he recently had at a funeral when everyone in the church sang. It made such a difference that he said he was “blown away”, and he went on to encourage all of us to sing at every Mass during Lent. I shared this invitation with our middle school Faith Formation students this week, and after they finished groaning about it they promised they would do something ELSE for Lent. Ha! Perhaps you are feeling the same way about singing at Mass, but did you know that singing:
· Releases hormones in your body which make you feel good
· Boosts your immune system
· Lowers your blood pressure
· Improves your breathing
· Lowers anxiety and stress
· Promotes social bonding
· Improves happiness
· Improves cognition
· Leads to a longer life
And now that you know all of this, how can you remain silent? Please join our reluctant middle school students and sing at Mass during Lent, and we’ll all be happier and healthier for Easter! Thank you!
And for those who really love to sing…Choir!
Lent is the perfect time to join the choir! Our adult choir is always ready to welcome new voices – see Mr. Salvadore or Fr. Young for more info, and the children’s choir for Easter is now being formed. Rehearsals will take place in the choir loft on Thursdays from 5-6PM beginning March 1st. Sign up at Faith Formation with Mrs. Rowell or Mrs. Bradley, or call 941-5576. Students in second grade and up are welcome to participate. The children’s choir will sing at the 9:30AM Mass on Easter morning, Sunday, April 1st.
“I love to hear a choir. I love the humanity, to see the faces of real people devoting themselves to a piece of music. I like the teamwork. It makes me feel optimistic about the human race when I see them cooperating like that.” - Paul McCartney
